Robert Wadlow Biography
Robert Pershing Wadlow was born on February 22, 1918 in Alton, Ohio, and died on July 15, 1940 at the age of 22. Robert Wadlow suffered from pituitary hypertrophy, which contributed to his rapid growth. Just 18 days before his death, wadlow was measured at 8 ft 11 in tall, and weighed 485 pounds. Due to his size, he needed leg braces to walk, which eventually led to his death when an ill-fitting brace caused a blister which became infected and killed him.
During his life, Robert Wadlow was a free mason, traveled with Ringling Brothers Circus, and toured the country. He was a well-known celebrity due to his height and overall size. Most importantly, he was highly regarded as a person, proven by the 40,000 people who attended his funeral.
